You are warmly invited to join us as we explore Berea's unique relationship to abolition. . .
its past, present and future here in this place. We believe that creative people, artists, musicians and the like can engage with this history in a way that has the ripe potential to be transformative and possibly (dare we dream!) restorative.
"Won't You Be My Neighbor, Berea?" is creating a platform for neighborliness. We are thinking about that in the sense of how we are all inextricably tied to each other in the now, through out time, amongst humans and creatures, institutions and ecologies.
CALL FOR ART: For this chapter of our work we want to take an unflinching look at the history of race in Berea and the surrounding areas. We also want to specifically acknowledge the role that Berea College has played, while not ignoring the stories that existed before and outside of the college. We would like to perpetuate the vision of Berea and its surrounds as an equitable and multi-racial society by inviting you to submit your abolition-themed work for exhibition. Delivery of Artwork: Feb 19 from 12 to 5 pm
CREATIVE WORKING GROUP: This exhibition is envisioned as an invitation to participate in longer term work around this topic with a goal of forming an artists collaborative team or teams to dream up creative interruptions to the status quo. Creative people who are interested in being involved in a longer term project are invited to submit letters of interest. Please submit the Abolition Creative Group Letter of Interest form below form by February 19th. We strongly, warmly, and emphatically encourage BIPOC creatives of color, femmes, LGBTQI+ to reach out. This invitation to participate is open to everyone from Berea and surrounding areas.

Won't You Be My Neighbor, Berea?
Won't You Be My Neighbor, Berea? is a new community initiative launching in October. We will explore maintaining social connection in the midst of a pandemic, learn about our unique history, gather stories, create together, and reinforce that our diversity makes us strong and resilient.
